Holidaying in a fischerman's cabins "Rorbu" has become very popular in Lofoten. Orginally the houses were built to give fishermen shelter in the Lofot fishing season from January to April, where the cod comes to the banks of Lofoten to breed. The tradition goes as far back as 1120 A.D., when King Øystein had special sheds built for fishermen who up until that time, just overturned their boats to get shelter for the night. Most fishing cabins are right by the water's edge in the many fishing hamlets in Lofoten.
While the first "rorbu" cabins were very primitive, today's cabin has a good standard with shower/WC, fridge and everything necessary to make an unforgettable holiday. We have decided to split the rorbu cabins into two groups; traditional and modern. Traditional cabins are simple but of a good standard where the emphasis is laid on rorbu cabin authenticity and atmosphere. Modern rorbu cabins have a high standard especially in regard to interior comfort for the guests.
Lofotens exiciting and variable nature fascinates all. With its jagged peaks, deep fjords, beaches, midnight sun and fishing villages clinging to the base of the mountains, Lofotens is an experience for all.
Welcome to holidaying in a rorbu in Lofoten!
